I’ve been portraying landscapes with various media since I was a child. Sunlight bouncing off of water, tree trunks, and leaves all bring me back to images that are calming and evoke a sense of peace and belonging. I have been fortunate to have these subjects available in the forms of local forests and wetlands.

Currently I am painting a series inspired by the Japanese word Komorebi which describes the way sunlight filters through the leaves of trees. The underpainting is traditionally painted with loose gestural brushwork. Short diagonal brushstrokes mimicking pixels overlaying some of the underpainting references the transition from the past to the present. My Images appear to portray the struggle between traditional painting and the representation of digital media. I find the painting process to be a sort of meditation almost randomly layering diamonds over the bones of the trees.
